Charles County Children's Aid Society, Inc. was founded in 1936 by a group of compassionate women who recognized that their fellow neighbors were having difficulty feeding and clothing their children. Spurred by the Great Depression and casulities of war, these caring ladies formed a "society" whose goal was to ensure local families' basic life necessities were met. However, as time progressed the group realized that they were unable to independently provide for the less fortunate thus in 1956 the Children's Aid Society applied for and became a viable 501 (c) (3) non-profit human service agency.
CCCAS (Charles County Children's Aid Society) has continually evolved its services to reflect the current community needs. Early on the agency handled Charles County's foster care and adoption services before there was a local Department of Social Services. Over time, parenting classes, emergency shelter assistance and just about any other type of need has been offered through the agency.
Today, CCCAS is governed by a strong and caring board of directors compiled of members of the community. The agency has 4 full time and 1 part time employee and offers several programs that include the emergency assistance program, the school supply program and the holiday assistance program. Over 10,000 families and children are helped annually.
